YogAbility creates a custom experience that combines social and emotional learning with yoga to teach self regulation, grounding, and calm down skills, all while building self confidence and promoting overall wellness.
Yoga is a great way to improve endurance and muscle tone. It helps regulate heart rate variability, balances the nervous system, and promotes greater focus, all resulting in an elevated mood and improved behavior.
Yoga not only helps improve your body, but also helps with mindfulness and meditation. Through creating a mind-body connection, students will learn how to connect breath and movement to help work through anxiety, stress, tension, worry, and anger.
Social and emotional development includes skills of self-regulation, executive functioning, and critical thinking that enable us to take in and interpret information and manage our thoughts, feelings, and behavior toward the attainment of a goal; the ability to identify, understand, and manage our own emotions and to relate to the emotions of others through empathy and perspective-taking; and the skills and behaviors required to build and maintain healthy relationships, resolve conflicts, and work and play well with others.
Yogic philosophy is rooted in the practice of pausing to think before acting in emotionally charged situations, which is necessary for maintaining positive relationships and resolving conflicts peacefully. Through yoga, we can learn to foster mindful attention, a mind and body awareness of thoughts and emotions, and empathy and perspective taking to develop social awareness. Emotional regulation is fundamental to positive social interactions and critical to building relationships with others.
Through social emotional learning, we use the mat to work on adopting a mindset of gratitude, optimism, openness, and enthusiasm. We grow our sense of purpose, resilience, and self-esteem. Ancient yoga philosophy guides us in our social and emotional journey, through our movements, our stillness, and everything in between.

As an Accessible Yoga Teacher, I affirm the divinity of each individual who crosses my path, and I promise to share the yoga teachings with all who seek them. I will strive to make the practices of yoga accessible to all of my students regardless of ability or background, and to serve with love and compassion.
YogAbility adheres to mental health trauma informed practices and believes in a person centered approach, allowing every individual the right to have agency over their own decisions.
